Our Artistic Director, Kendrick Heather Phillips, honored at Atlanta Magazine's 8th annual Atlanta Women Making A Mark Awards.

March 20, 2003:

Kendrick Heather Phillips, Founder and Director of Metropolitan Theatre Conservatory and Board President of Fulton Arts North, selected as one of the eight honorees of Atlanta Magazine's 2003 Women Making a Mark Awards. The awards ceremony, "honoring eight women on the front lines of change who are making Atlanta a better place", was held at the Atlanta History Center.

Ms. Phillips is the youngest women in the history of the event to be selected. She was honored for her Shakespearean educational arts programs, her outreach programs in the Arts for at-risk and economically impoverished children, the mission and programs of her school, her volunteer work, and her teen mentoring program.

The remarkable women rounding out the honorees included : Shirley Borenstein, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Kristin Childers, Dekalb County Assistant District Attorney; Evern Cooper, President of the UPS Foundation; Gloria Dorsey, Lead Veterinarian of the Atlanta Humane Society; Lucy Hall, Founder/Director of the Mary Hall Freedom House; Janet Street, President and CEO, Girls, Inc. of Greater Atlanta, and Cathy Woolard, Atlanta City Council President.

The Eight honorees were commended for "inspiring us with their stories of courage and goodwill, and for making a permanent, positive mark on lives in Atlanta through their strength and leadership".

The awards ceremony will air on AIBTV (Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters) on April 9th at 7:00 PM and on April 15th at 3:00 PM.
